Library

The Library was reconstructed in February 2002 after the 921 Earthquake in 1999. The new building was inaugurated on September 21, 2005. It is a seven-floor-and-one-basement building with 2,000 reading seats, and situated at the center of NCHU .The Library is planned to store a total of 1.7 million books.

Wireless LAN is installed throughout the Library so that a comfortable and convenient environment is provided. With the establishment of Art Exhibitions on the seventh floor, the Library offers traditions, technologies and a liberal arts environment. in addition to the comfy reading space, the Library also sets up Elders Reading Area,I Multimedia Center, Music Channel Zone, Study Rooms and Group Study Rooms. The Library spares no efforts in the provision of comprehensive information and network facilities so that a variety of services can be offered. It is hoped that a lifelong learning environment can be created here so that the Library serves as the information center of academic resources in central Taiwan. The new building is a complex library that has strengths in both digital archives and physical spaces.It provides access to electronic resources of all the important researches in the world. Meanwhile, it is planning to expand its digital archives and resources.

Electronic management is used to save manpower and enhance qualities of services. The Library aims to provide comfortable reading areas and a learning environment without any obstacles. It also assists faculties to publish articles in the digital environment. A professional information service system will be provided, together with the establishment of Central Taiwan Science Park.

Main services provided by the Library are as follows.

▲ Accessing

Any National Chung Hsing University(NCHU) faculty members and students with valid university ID cards can enter the library during opening hours. General public, 18 years and older, may enter the library by exchanging Visitor's Cards with a valid IDs with photos.

▲ Circulation

NCHU faculty members and students with valid university ID cards or library borrower cards can borrow books from the library.
Emails will be sent on a daily basis to inform the arrivals of books, due dates for loaned books and overdue notifications

▲ Multimedia

Located on the 3rd floor, the Multimedia Center provides access to all types of Audio/Visual collections, such as DVDs, VCDs, and CDs.

▲ Reference

The Reference Desk is located on the first floor in the library, with on-duty Reference Librarians to provide users with reference assistance, such as user instruction of library collection, course reserves, user-guidance of electronic resources retrieval and so on.
Services are available in a variety of ways: email, phone, fax and mail.

▲ Interlibrary Loan

1、Nationwide Document Delivery Service
Through interlibrary loan system, NDDS, our readers can apply to borrow or obtain copies of materials from libraries across the country. Document delivery from international libraries is also available.
2、Interlibrary Borrowing Service
NCHU library is a member of Taichung Area Academic Library Consortium, which includes Chaoyang University of Technology, Chienkuo Technology University, China Medical University, Chung Shan Medical University, Da-Yeh University, Feng Chia University, Hungkuang University, National Changhua University of Education, National Chi Nan University, National Chinyi Institute of Technology, National Chung Hsing University, National Taichung University, Providence University, Tunghai University. NCHU faculty members and students may apply for Interlibrary cards, which enable the card holders to borrow materials from the other libraries personally.
3、Fast Interlibrary Cooperation of Six Universities
The six universities are National Chung Hsin University, Tunghai University, Feng Chia University, Providence University, Chung Shan Medical University. and China Medical University. They provide users with more efficient and cheaper services.

NCHU Library provides a wide range of services and facilities for our readers and visitors. In order to meet the needs of students and faculties with diverse range of library resources, Library offers the services of library tours, training sessions, exhibitions, workshops and so on.

▲ Recommendation

The NCHU students, faculty and staff members are invited to submit purchase requests for library materials.

▲ Facilities for Rent

Other facilities including study rooms and meeting rooms are available for rent to readers.
