土壤經由時間的生成過程令人迷惑,有人說是 " 上帝的旨意 " ,因為目前沒有時間機器去追溯現存土壤過去的歷史,本課程以一般科學的原理與理論去思考及想像,以發展土壤化育的概念,並藉由觀察已知存在的土壤實體及實驗設計來揭曉土壤化育過程的秘密。並會介紹美國分類系統,學習如何利用土壤的自然特性來進行土壤分類,此外說明土壤分類不僅只是作為進行土壤調查與解釋之用,更會串聯土壤化域與分類的關係。

Soils come into formation through time is a fascinating activity. Some say that it is “mind of God.”Until now, we do not have a time machine to travel back and find out the pedogenesis of soils. This course develops the concepts of soil genesis by ponding and fantasizing from scientific principles and theories. By observing known existence of real soils and results of testing, we try to reveal the secrets of pedogenesis. Thereafter, The classification system developed by U.S. is also introduced in this course. I'll show how soils are classified on the basis of their natural characteristics. In addition to the use of taxonomic system for making and interpreting soil survey, I would like to bridge the pedogenesis and taxonomic systems together.

2.了解五大成土因子及相互間交互關係。
3.了解及使用美國土壤分類系統。
4.說明土壤化育與分類系統間的關係。

1. To be familiar with the processes of soil formation;
2. To understand five soil forming factors and their interaction;
3. To understand and use the soil classification system of United States.
4. To clarify the relationship between predogenesis and classification.
