Molecular Biology is the basis of the
development of the biotechnology industry. In order to train first-rate
scientists and technicians to meet the growing demands of the
biology-related industry of our country, National Chung Hsing University
founded the Institute of Molecular Biology within the College of Science
in 1990. Building on established strengths in the field of biology, the
College of Life Sciences was subsequently founded in 1994, combining the
departments and institutes relevant to biological sciences and
technology. Distinct from the College of Sciences, the Institute of
Molecular Biology became an important component of the new College of
Life Sciences.
Initially, the graduate program of the Institute offered Masters degrees only. A Doctoral program was established in 1994, after solid research and teaching credentials had been demonstrated by our top-notch faculty. Our Institute admits twenty-four Masters student and eight Doctoral student annually. The faculty consists of six Professors, three Associate Professors, and two Assistant Professors, one of which has joint appointment with the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. Our main research and teaching interests are focused on micro-organisms, plants, and animal cell biology. Our research encompasses both basic theory and applied science and technology. All professors in the Institute participate actively in individual and collaborative research projects. The Institute sees to promote collaboration among faculty and specialists on campus as well as outside of the university. This will enable us to raise our standard of the research and to create new scientific development. |
