二、研究主題:
1. 水稻榖粒發育相關基因功能研究及其表現調控分析。
2. 高價醫藥工業用蛋白基因轉殖及其利用-植物分子農場研究。

三、研究概況:
  近年來以水稻為材料,研究水稻胚及穀粒發育相關基因之表現與選殖,累積了一些成果(Chen et al., 1996a,b; Chen et al., 1997a,b,c; Wu et al., 1998)。在水稻榖粒發育相關基因功能之分析研究方面,目前已篩得與水稻榖粒稔實、外型特異及發育異常之水稻突變株近50株,並已解讀其中27株之T-DNA插入點,及分析插入基因或鄰近基因表現之差異。這些水稻突變體,將成為未來研究水稻榖粒發育相關基因之重要材料。另外,本研究室過去篩得與水稻胚發育時期特有表現之基因有38個,大部分仍不知其功能,亦將利用RNAi之技術或誘導產生基因突變之方法,探討基因之功能。
  而於水稻基因轉殖及應用方面,已有成功轉殖豬乳鐵蛋白基因之轉殖水稻現正進行隔離田間試驗中。另外也成功轉殖多個醫藥工業用酵素如D-hydantoinase, N-carbamoyl D-amino acid amidohydrolase及L-aminoacylase基因之轉殖水稻及芝麻2S貯藏性蛋白基因之轉殖水稻 (Lee et al., 2003; Lee et al., 2004)。

五、未來研究重點
  在基礎研究上:利用水稻突變體材料,配合生物資訊及各項基因體分析技術,探討水稻榖粒發育相關基因之功能,期望經由基因功能之了解,作為未來作物生產改進之用。
  在應用研究上 :利用基因轉殖技術,繼續篩選具經濟價值之重要蛋白基因,將之轉入植物(包括水稻、番茄、大豆)基因體,使植物能大量表現外源蛋白,成為蛋白生產工廠,並達到發展植物為分子農場之目標。
