A Message from the President ¡@ ¡§Is it not pleasant to learn with a constant perseverance and application? Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters?¡¨ said Confucius, the most celebrated philosopher in ancient China. By way of this Chinese Language and Culture Program, we are pleased to have you here as our guests. We hope you will explore Taiwan and discover the stories it tells. ¡@ If you have seen the movie ¡§Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,¡¨ you must have been highly impressed by its kung fu scenes and Chinese backdrop music. You¡¦ll be in close touch with things of the same vein in this program. ¡@ The Chinese culture in Taiwan is strongly characterized by its local flavors, tellingly different from that in Mainland China and other Chinese areas. For one thing, we use Chinese Complex characters, instead of the Simplified one. Among other things, the native cuisines can best showcase the uniqueness of Taiwan, in my opinion. After the visit, you¡¦ll bring home a great memory of Taiwan. ¡@ It is hoped that the summer program will become a forum for students from the world over to know more of each other. We also believe that the program will strengthen the cooperation between NCHU and its sister universities. Once again, welcome to NCHU, welcome to Taiwan.
