Sending A Thousand Mile of Warmth Taiwan Comprehensive University System Round the Island Charity Cycle Ride

Taiwan Comprehensive University System (TCUS) a distinguished university alliances in Taiwan, consisting of Chung Hsing University, Cheng Kung University, Sun Yat-sen University and Chung Cheng University, launched a special charity program this summer that attracted a hundred faculty and students from the four universities. The round the island cycle ride lasted twelve days, from June 27 to July 8, showering a thousand mile of love to the elderly and disadvantaged children. The students also demonstrated their environmental protection efforts in beach cleanup during the cycling trip.
Taiwan Comprehensive University System (TCUS) held a press conference on June 27, 2016, prior the departure of the cycling teams. The event was chaired by the Dr. Shieu, Fuh-Sheng（薛富盛）, President of Chung Hsing University, Dr. Su, Huey-Jen（蘇慧貞）, President of Cheng Kung University, Dr. Wu, Jih-hwa（吳濟華）, President of Sun Yat-sen University and Dr. Hao Feng Ming（郝鳳鳴）, Vice President of Chung Cheng University. The four Presidents led the first batch of 32 student cyclists at the front gate of Chung-Hsing University and officially announced the opening of the event.
On the morning of June 27, The around the island cyclists made their way south, passing through the eastern part of the island and eventually reaching northern Taiwan. They returned to Chung-Hsing University on July 8. There were six volunteering services during the twelve days, including visiting the Chia Yi Ji Mei Home for the Elderly on the June 28, Kaohsiung Fengshan Children Early Recovery Development Center on June 29. In addition to that, the cyclists volunteered their time in the Kenting beach cleanup service on July 1. On July 3, they delivered care packages to the Childcare Resources Center, Cheng Kung Station, Kaohsiung. Their final volunteering service stop included the Miaoli Special Education Center on July 7 and the Maria Social Welfare Foundation on July 8.
Dr. Shieu, Fuh-Sheng（薛富盛） said the debut of the Island Charity Cycle Ride in Taiwan integrated health, social services, charity and environmental concepts. Dr. Shieu regards the event as one that successfully connects faculty and students from the four universities and social services, that has a symbolic purpose in attaching social responsibilities to universities.
There are three overseas students in this cycling tour ride and they included Rodrigo from Salvador, Nattorn Pornpattananangkul from Thailand, and Nabangshu Sinha from India. Among them, Rodrigo even challenged roundabout island cycling. He is currently a freshman of the International Bachelor Program of Agribusiness at the Chung Hsing University. He started school last September and really like Taiwan. He said he would normally bike within Taichung city area, but in order to prepare for the trip, he started 4km of jogging everyday half a month ago and building stamina from that. He viewed the roundabout island tour as a challenge, while an opportunity to get to know more Taiwanese friends. He hopes to become more acquainted to the Taiwanese culture and Chinese language. Last but not least, Rodrigo was most excited to see the beautiful eastern scenic coastline that he has heard so much praise.
